Confidence coaching is a whole industry, and some of it is legitimately good work. But there's a mismatch when men try to apply general confidence coaching to this specific problem, and it's worth understanding why.
What General Confidence Work Targets
Most confidence coaching focuses on mindset, self-talk, body language, social presence, the kind of confidence that shows up in a room, at work, in social situations. That's real and valuable territory, and a lot of men genuinely benefit from it in those contexts.
Why It Doesn't Transfer Cleanly Here
Sexual performance anxiety isn't primarily a confidence-in-general problem. Plenty of men dealing with it are confident everywhere else, at work, socially, in every other domain of their life. The pattern is specifically triggered by the intimate context and the evaluation that comes with it. General confidence work, "stand taller, speak with more certainty, believe in yourself," doesn't address the actual mechanism, the attention shift from sensation to evaluation, the nervous system's threat response competing with arousal.
What Actually Needs to Change
It's not belief, it's attention and nervous system regulation. You can believe completely in your own worth and still have your body respond to a threat-interpreted situation exactly the way bodies respond to threats. That's physiology, not mindset, and it needs physiology-informed tools, not affirmations.
Where General Confidence Work Still Helps
