Making A Little Room For Yourself

Making A Little Room For Yourself

Aug 20, 2026

I've been thinking lately about space.

Not necessarily more space. Most of us aren't suddenly going to acquire an extra room, an empty afternoon, or three additional hours in the day.

I'm thinking about the space we already have—and how quickly it gets filled.

The kitchen counter collects the things we use every day. The table collects the mail. Our calendars fill with appointments and obligations. And our minds? Well, they can become crowded with everyone and everything that needs something from us.

Somewhere in all of that, it can become surprisingly easy to forget to leave a little room for ourselves.

Maybe we don't need an elaborate sacred space or a perfectly styled corner. Maybe we just need to claim something.

A chair by a window.

One end of a table.

A little corner where the journal can stay within reach.

Twenty minutes when we make the tea—and actually sit down and savor it.

A place to pull a card, read a few pages, stare out the window, or simply be quiet for a while.

And maybe the space doesn't even have to be physical.

Maybe it's saying no to something we don't want to do.

Leaving an evening unscheduled.

Taking the long way home.

Giving ourselves permission to do something simply because we enjoy it—not because it's productive, useful, or good for anyone else.

Maybe remembering yourself doesn't begin with some enormous act of transformation. Maybe it begins by making a little room for yourself in the life you're already living.

I'm working on claiming a little corner of my own right now.

Nothing grand.

Just a place to sit with my tea, my cards, my journal—and myself.

Have you made space for yourself lately? I hope you have.
