A Glass of Inspiration: Sharing My Lemonade Story

Sep 22, 2024

An autobiographical interview made for my lemon heads. 😊

1) What inspired you to start your lemonade stand/business?

I was inspired to begin my lemonade business for several reasons:

  • I was approaching my 50th birthday and said why not?

  • I wanted to financially contribute to my family and needed to do it on my own schedule as my husband’s schedule is bonkers and unreliable, and we typically do not hire babysitters.  I have young children and I needed to be able to take them to work with me.

  • Originally, I wanted to start a hot dog stand but as I was researching it, I stumbled upon “How to start a lemonade stand” and the rest is history. Besides, my favorite color is yellow!

2. What’s your favorite lemonade recipe?

My favorite lemonade recipe is blackberry lemonade. Funny thing is, blackberry wasn’t a part of my original flavor palate in the early few weeks of my lemonade stand.  A friend of mine kept nagging me to get it and when I did, finally, it turned out to be my favorite!

3. How has your community supported your venture?

I am so encouraged and impressed by all the folks who want me to succeed.  My kids help me with new business ideas, my husband cheers me on, my friends are relentless taste testers for my new flavors, I have friends who randomly give me lemonade gifts, my neighbor surprises me with lemonade paraphernalia in my mailbox just because, my kids’ school supports my lemonade stand by hiring me at their events and posting my business on their social media page, people message me because they received a referral for their block party, customers return each week to get their lemonade fix,  folks remark how they love that I use clean label/high quality syrups and compostable straws, a pediatrician even stopped by and praised me on providing free fruit for kids, the list goes on and on and I’m so grateful!

4. What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs?

The advice I would give to aspiring entrepreneurs is that, the knowing is in the doing. In other words, take action on your ideas and see if they work.  Try a whole bunch of business ideas (like I did) and see which one fits you the best.  When you find that one, PERSISTENCE is the magic pill for success.
