There’s something delightful about a paint marker, a mason jar, and a table full of giggles.
This past weekend, my daughter and I joined my cousin and her little one for a sweet mother-daughter tea party and painting session at Sip & Dipity, Springfield Ohio. It wasn’t just a fun outing it was an intentional act of remembering. A moment to press pause, reconnect, and lean into the little girls inside of us who still love to create.
We sat around the table, giggling with our girls, as we painted mason jars with spring-themed designs of flowers, strawberries, bees, and watermelons. With every stroke, I felt something light up in me. The playful, imaginative, carefree side that motherhood sometimes buries under laundry piles and grocery lists.
Motherhood is holy work but it can be heavy. In the middle of all the serving and tending, it’s easy to forget that we, too, need tending. That there’s a little girl in us who still wants to play.
So we picked up the markers. We sipped tea. We laughed at wobbly lines and uneven petals. And in that moment, I was reminded: this is what authentic connection looks like. Not just with our daughters but with our own souls. To be at rest and integrated in spirit, mind, body, heart, and soul.
Sometimes healing doesn’t look like a breakthrough. Sometimes, it looks like painting springtime strawberries on a mason jar with your child. It looks like choosing joy, creating beauty, and giving yourself permission to play.
To every mama reading this: don’t forget the little girl in you. Let her paint. Let her giggle. Let her feel joy.
