My first steps in English storytelling were timid. Mistakes dominated my drafts, doubts prevailed, and the whole idea seemed a fool’s errand. Eventually, I decided to test my command of the language by taking the IELTS exam. I promised myself to keep writing in English if I scored Band 8 out of 9.
I took preparation courses, passed 3 mock exams, and went to another city for the real one.
I got Band 7...
As you can see, I broke my promise. I didn't stop, and my stories reached readers far away. :)
P.S. I can’t thank all my English teachers enough. Special thanks to two private language schools—WinWin and Yes Center—and to the Window on America cultural hub, where I attended free speaking clubs led by Peace Corps volunteers. All three venues helped me practice, learn, and gradually find my voice in English.
