Laurence Waterhouse is a retired Chartered Surveyor with more than four decades of professional experience in surveying, flood risk, hydrography and environmental management. Throughout his career he worked on projects across the United Kingdom and internationally, combining technical expertise with a lifelong interest in history, landscapes and the stories they hold.

Retirement has given Laurence the opportunity to pursue a passion for writing. His books range from historical fiction and travel writing to practical works on surveying and the countryside. Whether uncovering the lost kingdom of Elmet in a historical mystery, reflecting on the people and landscapes of Mallorca, or sharing professional knowledge gained over many years in surveying, his writing is rooted in real places, careful research and a love of discovery.

Living in the historic village of Saxton in North Yorkshire, Laurence continues to draw inspiration from the landscapes, history and communities that surround him. His aim is to entertain, inform and encourage readers to look a little more closely at the places they know, because every landscape has a story waiting to be told.
