I am a Chicana-Latina-Indigenous Artist and Poet who is exploring her sensuality after a traumatic 6-hour spinal fusion that’s left me with chronic pain. As a disabled artist I want to celebrate my life in its physical/spiritual form. I related deeply to Frida Kahlo for several compelling factors. The first is we are both children of Mexico. Although I was born in Northern California, which used to be Mexico, Frida's art reached out to me as a young girl. When I was in a serious 3 car collision as a woman in her 30's, I summoned the strength and determination to heal by calling upon La Frida. The second factor is an unexpected adventure into myself living with spinal disabilities. I learned how to truly love my Body after she was deeply injured by a 1) a drunk driver who ran a red light, and 2) snow left on the ground that turned into black ice which caused a tragic SLIP&FALL that forced me to have a six hour major back surgery known as a spinal fusion. After all these dramatic, tragic life changing injuries, I discovered the me that loves to dress up, the me that is developing a love affair with my body and the me that love joy, happiness and beauty. Within this circle of influence, I started my La_Gata_Gloryalicious page on Instagram to share my journey into self love of the physical, emotional and psychological healing.
