Transform Your Mind and Body with WingTsun-ChiKung Training

Dec 08, 2024

Behind the WingTsun-ChiKung ZOOM training - Is an hour enough? With the right focus and the ability to come close to 100% concentration, an hour of training per week can achieve a lot.

Shoulder hurts?
Moving carefully is better than not moving at all.
Back pain?
Slow, continuous whole-body movement with deeply relaxed breathing can lead us to relief.

Some of the Zoom training sessions of the past weeks and months have been very intense. But the degree, the measurable result is in the end always determined by our ability to focus and concentrate. An important skill set in this seemingly ever increasing mentality of "higher, further, faster".

I integrate in our weekly ChiKung training elements of preparations from the other forms of the WT system, the German engineered Wing Tsun. Elements of the functional WingTsun strength and movement training. Part of the programs for the Technician grades, aka instructor levels, even the master programs. Our very own movement mojo.

I have met many practitioners who knew the Biu-Tze form, whacked the wooden dummy, trained with the long pole and the double knives. Few only mastered it and displayed very particular skills and power deriving from each form.

Some of my prefered teachers had the unique ability to pinpoint the origin of each skill, each solution coming from a particular part of a specific form. Those skills worked beautifully and seemed to look like nothing.

Too many practitioners try to make everything work by using massive power and too much speed. That can work. No doubt. It's just not my idea of a solid skill. Once your training partner or your real world opponent is stronger and faster, it's not going to end well for you.

You might now exclaim: Hey, I am only doing the solo ChiKung training. I don't care about self-defense or fighting abilities.
Well, you are right. Just don't forget that the unique movement, strength, power developent, elasticity, awareness exercises we train in our weekly WingTsun-ChiKung Zoom derive from battle tested scenarios, skills that allow your survival in harsh reality.

The weekly ChiKung training has become an integral part of my WingTsun-CoreConcepts. The blueprint of my learning, training and teaching methods that I have developed over the past forty years of my Wing Tsun Kung Fu training.

I have worked over the years with many who tried to supplement their skills with all kinds of different (non WT) programs. Working out a lot is Ok. Cross training does have its merits. Never forget or neglect strength training. But all too often all the other types of training programs didn't bring the same results as the WingTsun-CoreConcepts programs, particularly the fine tuning through the admittingly at times hellish EMF Chi-Sau training. Did I mention that this is my favourite? Born out of the old school WT Chi-Sau training as practiced by my SiFu, the late Grandmaster Keith R. Kernspecht.

What's the solo training equivalent to the EMF Chi-Sau partner training? Yes indeed, it's our EMF WingTsun-ChiKung training. EMF stands for Elastic Movement Force.

See you soon at the next WingTsun-ChiKung Zoom!
