Hello! I am a 3D Artist that creates props for games, commercials and animations.
I will be explaining how the process of BAKING helps to conserve memory in games. Also I will use my Leviathan Axe model to elaborate this. This process involves use of two versions of the same model, which are High Poly and Low Poly model.
High Poly model
This model has high resolution details and also takes up large space.
Low Poly model
This model has low resolution and takes up low space, making it suitable to use in game development.
BAKING
Baking makes it possible to put the high resolution details of the high poly model on the low poly model. In game development the low poly model is used. This means that the model in the game will have high resolution details while taking low space. With this the games became more optimized and suitable for a larger audience.
