Telegram has never turned a profit. Pavel Durov aims to change that.
Durov revealed that the annual cost of serving a single Telegram user is approximately 70 cents. With 950 million users, this translates to $665 million spent on network infrastructure this year alone.
In 2023, Telegram generated $45 million, primarily from premium subscriptions, while incurring at least $630 million in expenses. Consequently, the company faced an estimated loss of $585 million last year.
Durov has not disclosed the exact losses or the sources of funding for network support and development. Nevertheless, he expressed optimism that Telegram could achieve profitability this year.
