Why this book: My mom enjoys Louise Penny books and she gave me a bag full. Yes, a bag full. We don’t exchange books—we exchange BAGS of books. And by exchange, I mean she gives them to me. I pay her back with gifts from my favorite book store gift shops—Boston Public Library Gift Store.

My notes: Louise Penny books are easy reads, mysteries, and the perfect genre to help me wind down as the school year winds up. I’ll be honest, it took me a long time to get into it. There were a lot of characters introduced at once and the names were hard for me to pronounce in my head. 🤔 I tried a strategy that I tell my students, “If you don’t know how to read the name, just say the letter of the first name.” It sounds like a great strategy, doesn’t it? It would work better if the author made sure they didn’t name any characters with the same first letter. It is also still a blow to my confidence as a reader. No wonder my students don’t take my advice.

Key Takeaways:

  • Books can still be good if you can’t keep the characters straight.

  • I love reading outside. Past Kreisa started some good habits.

  • I don’t know if any book over 500 pages should be considered easy reads.

  • I need to read 13 books to catch up to pace for my Goodreads 2026 book. Thirteen is my lucky number so that’s a sign I can do it.

Back to my books — there's always another one piquing my pages. [Get the book here]
