kiyânaw is my vision for a platform being designed for adult Indigenous language learners through the use of apps that help us learn real language faster.

Three applications are currently under development, kiyânaw Transcribe, the kiyânaw Database, and the kiyânaw App (mobile).

kiyânaw Transcribe: an online, collaborative transcription app focused on Indigenous languages. Currently with support for spell checking in Plains Cree Y-dialect (but more to come soon). All transcriptions (optionally) feed into kiyânaw Database to allow for a more focused learner experience. Published transcriptions will be viewable within kiyânaw Theatre (coming soon).

kiyânaw Database: online database that allows learners to search for words and phrases from finished transcriptions, published stories, and online articles, including partial words. Learning how a word is phrase is used in-context can be very helpful in the language-learning process, and having access to pronunciation of any word by a fluent speaker is invaluable.

kiyânaw App: the mobile app (coming soon) will allow any language learner to begin collecting words and phrases from fluent speakers in their own community, contributing to the community pool or language materials. Within language dialects even there can be variations in phrasing and pronunciation, and this creates a barrier for learners sometimes when accessing resources outside of one's own community, especially if local resources don't exist. With the kiyânaw App, every learner now becomes a language warrior, helping build the language bundle for future generations.
