The Mystery of God's Unity Plan Through Christ (Colossians 1:26-27)
Matthew 13:11 says, “He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.”
For centuries, there's a creative piece that remained partially covered, its full design a mystery to those who gazed upon it. They could see glimpses and hints, but the complete picture eluded them. Then, one day, the covering was removed, and the entire piece was revealed in all its glory, displaying a magnificent work of art that took everyone’s breath away.
This is what happened when Christ came into the world. For ages, God’s plan was a mystery, glimpsed only in part by prophets. They spoke of a Messiah, a Savior, but the full scope of God’s plan remained hidden. Then, in the fullness of time, Jesus came, and the mystery was unveiled.
The Apostle Paul speaks of this revelation in his letters to the Ephesians and Colossians. In Ephesians 1:9-10, he writes, "He made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ." Here, Paul reveals that God’s ultimate plan is to unite all things in Christ, to bring harmony and reconciliation to the entire creation.
Similarly, in Colossians 1:26-27, Paul says, "The mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory." This mystery, once hidden, is now revealed: Christ in us, the hope of glory.
Through Christ, we see the full expression of God’s plan. We understand that God’s purpose is not just to save individuals, but to bring together all of creation in a harmonious unity under Christ. This plan encompasses everything—every person, every nation, every part of creation—united in a glorious show of redemption and renewal.
So how does knowing God’s ultimate plan through Christ change the way we live? How does it affect our relationships, our choices, our vision for the future?
The Apostle Peter offers a powerful reminder in his first letter: "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light" (1 Peter 2:9). Knowing that we are part of God’s grand plan gives us a profound sense of purpose and identity. We are called to live as people who reflect the light of Christ, who embody the unity and reconciliation that God desires for all creation.
In this seventh part, we see the revelation of God’s plan through Christ; we see the unity and harmony that God intends. We must, therefore, strive to live in a way that reflects the reconciling love of Christ. This means breaking down barriers, seeking peace, and working toward the healing of all relationships and the restoration of all creation.
