The foul waters of the Wolf Marsh spread either side of the course of the Leech river, a vile tributary of the famous Taymes, the largest river in Albion. The Wolf Marsh is a dark, dank, and dismal place seldom visited by travellers and with no human settlements of note. Nevertheless the marshes teem with activity, from Trolls, Goblinoids, and Squigs, to all manner of predatory monsters and the small things they call prey. But a more evil intelligence gazes over them, from two foreboding locations at either end of the marsh.
The first are the servants of the plague dragon, Atterax, which has long made its lair in the dense forest of the Witchcross at the Marsh’s Northeastern edge. Many hundreds of years old, it has ruled vast portions of the marshes while indulging occasional decades of sleep. For most of its time it has been served by the undead remains of the former court of Wainstead, a luckless human aristocratic house that it destroyed on its arrival. The various knights, footmen, and their servants were cursed into undeath by the Dragon’s vile magic and have lifelessly protected their master’s domain ever since.
The second are the sinister denizens of the night who have gathered at Castle Greystone, home of the Witch Eliza Etheridge, in the past few decades. What magical machinations and experiments have taken place within the castle can only be guessed at, but the southern marsh has been riven by howls, screams and unearthly lights ever since her arrival, and it is no secret that her doors are open to every outcast and cursed wanderer of the marshes.
The burgeoning power struggle in the swamp has yet to erupt into full blown conflict, and for now the two masters of undeath have been content to let their slaves, servants, and cronies do battle in their stead. No better example is found than on the Blood Bowl field, where the Wolf Marsh Classic is now contested between the two, to the excitement of locals and Blood Bowl fans worldwide!
