I have been an artist and a photographer for 50-years!
I first went to art school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where I majored in Photography in a 2-year program and then went on to get my BA in Studio Art at Sonoma State University where I focused on Painting. Because SSU was so isolated at the time, I took 24-units a semester just to keep myself entertained and busy. I think I covered the whole art department - drawing, printmaking (stone lithography), ceramics - but my major was Painting.
The life of an artist is not cut and dry. Society likes to put people in descriptive boxes, and artists are no exception. But artists are interested in much more than just the making of art. Our life experiences feed the art that we make. So whether we are working day jobs in some unrelated field to support our art habits, traveling to experience other cultures, or expanding our universes by having having families, artists are creating life more than anything else.
But primarily we are art makers, creatives, mystical creatures. We can conjure beautiful work out of nothing.
