Suella Braverman gets shredded over immigration at Home Affairs Committee by a fellow Tory

Nov 24, 2022

Right so the Commons Home Affairs Committee, the group of cross party MP’s who hold the Home Office to account and whom the Home Secretary must answer to, the Home Secretary being concentration camp overseer and dinghy crossing obsessive Suella Braverman. Now these Committees, all the main government departments have them are there to hold people to account hold departments to scrutiny, and they indeed do that to greater or lesser extents, but sometimes it's done in such a way, that you can’t help but smile and when it also means one Tory making another look like an absolute chump, which is absolutely what Braverman is, bereft of any talent and only in the office she holds to placate the hard right of Sunak’s party, holding his premiership together. Watch Tim Loughton destroy current Immigration Policy and any semblance that Cruella is fit for the job here:

All he wanted to know was what was a safe and legal route to come here from another country, he deliberately picked East Africa as somewhere there weren’t special circumstances set up for to come here, rejoin family already resident here as per his example and Braverman just fell to pieces. The more she said, the worse things got for her. She could not offer a safe, legal route solution, because there isn’t one. The simple answer is getting here by dinghy – I resent the use of the word illegal, because there isn’t actually a legal alternative, so it’s the only option -  is to be trafficked as the only way. Claiming asylum is their right of course, but can only happen once they are here on British soil, it’s been engineered that way on purpose, which is why so much effort is put into stopping people reaching British soil to begin with, with millions of pounds more going to France and even our own police being stationed there as part of a new deal Braverman struck, increasing the money handed to France that Priti Patel had already put in place, a plan that has failed from the off. Asylum seekers cannot come by train, or by plane, they are blocked from doing so and this short clip exposed that utterly, with a floundering Home Secretary unable to answer that, with Braverman’s permanent secretary Matthew Rycroft suggesting the UNHCR, basically deferring to the UN Commissioner for Human Rights because the UK offers no solution to this. The UN resettlement scheme is tiny, only applies to certain countries and isn’t designed for this. I mean, perhaps the UNHCR should get involved, perhaps they ought to be calling our government out for human rights violations by not having a safe, legal route to asylum? Notable it came from the civil servant and not the Home Secretary who by this point hadn’t got a Scooby! What becomes of them once here as well? Does the Manston concentration camp or another like it still await them? Far be it from me to give Tories props for a job well done, I detest them completely, but this is what the committee is in place to do and Tim Loughton’s approach was an effective one. But it certainly does expose just how dreadful and talentless a government we have in place when knee-jerk racism appears to supercede common sense and actually respect for human life when making policy.
