Right so Tory promises, ooh the minute you hear those two words together, you either snort in derision at whatever tripe comes next or roll your eyes so hard the person next to you can hear it. But Rishi’s made 5 in his latest speech! Yes, one for every day of the year so far, but what a load of gaslighting drivel it all is, calling it his people’s priorities, when it should be called his last gasp attempt at saving his own skin and that of his awful party! It was the equivalent of saying everything is fine whilst standing on an Indiana Jones style wooden bridge over a flaming pit. I mean, for getting on for 13 years now they’ve been doing this, promising this that and the other and delivering more pain, less money and poorer public services instead, all culminating now in a cost of living crisis, wages that no longer meet the needs of our daily lives, strikes happening in all manner of services around the country, often at the same time and all they can now do is say, give us another chance, we promise we really promise we will get it right this time! So come on Damo, put us out of our misery, what has Sunak promised to screw up next then? Well, let’s start with inflation, his first point. He’s saying he’s going to halve inflation this year. Inflation of course has been a huge part of the cost of living crisis. Where the government has said we can’t have pay rises because they would drive up inflation, inflation has been driven up anyway, by rising costs. It’s not just one figure either, Inflation right now is at 10.7%, that’s the figure we get quoted, but if you take food on it’s own, inflation is currently 13.3% and any wage rise or income rise offered below that is actually a cut to your income. It's not just inflation on food we’ve seen though, it’s been on everything, from our energy prices skyrocketing, our rents skyrocketing, our mortgages skyrocketing, if only we could move to the moon with all these rockets we seem to have available, it’d get us away from these ruddy Tories wouldn’t it! Britain needs a payrise, yet we’re being gaslit in being told that’ll drive inflation if they give us all one – well nobody has had one Rishi and inflation still went up! Answer that one? Andrew Bailey, the berk in charge at the Bank of England has been singing from the same hymn sheet on this too. He’s on half a million a year, Sunak is basically a billionaire, how dare such people tell us to suffer with our meagre insufficient incomes when they are living in the lap of luxury! They act like there was nothing that could be done, that this could not have been avoided just like they did in 2008 with the banking crisis, but we’re not talking about a flood disaster here, or an earthquake, or Parliament finally imploding under the weight of all the hot air being imparted by those within, inflation is driven by the financial markets and when you’ve become a money obsessed, net importing, former manufacturing based nation, you become as a country that much more vulnerable to financial balls ups. In 2008 it was all down to banks selling sub prime mortgages, the likes of Rishi Sunak, of Sajid Javid, the same Tories who have screwed up the country in government, were the same bankers involved in that mess back then. All Labour’s fault they used to say, giggling away on the green benches like a pair of schoolgirls. This time around the problem began with the pandemic, but more to the point, the government handling of it. A pandemic is an expensive thing to cope with, but when you threw out the plans in place to deal with such events, you’re in trouble. As much as Covid was a natural disaster, it was predictable because we’ve had pandemics before. What wasn’t natural was the sheer incompetence that followed. I’m not dismissing the loss of life in any way, Lord knows I’ve covered that in other vids, but we’re sticking with the inflation here. Billions lost on failed test and trace, billions lost in PPE fraud, that Sunak decided he wouldn’t pursue and just wrote off all before telling us we needed to tighten our belts and so much more. £460bn was spent by the government on Covid and so much was lost to waste. But who picks up the tab? We do. The government prints money all the time to spend on stuff, but the tax take destroys much of that, which keeps inflation under control. Now printing money to invest in jobs and the like, gives an increased tax return making for good economics, but printing billions and billions, losing it and basically chasing your own tail moving from one mess to the next throwing money at it all the way isn’t and inflation just spiked. The inflation, the cost of living crisis, all of it, is completely Tory made and now a Tory is saying they’ll get inflation down by half this year. Well, wholesale energy prices have already plummeted, if he acts to force energy suppliers to drop their prices too, then that’ll help get inflation down. Much of the other issues though, accelerated by Covid as they were, aren’t going to come down without the supply chain issues caused by Brexit being dealt with. There’s been rumbles of the Brexit deal getting watered down, but we’ll see. Of course the biggest thing they could do and this comes onto Sunak’s second bit of gaslighting is to grow the economy, but to help the economy grow and ease things financially for ordinary people the best thing Sunak could do is put more money in their pockets, give it to the people who spend on the high street, because that boosts the economy. It grows businesses, when people have more spare cash in their pocket because they will they spend it which is what businesses need. This in turn creates jobs, boosts economic growth overall. Lining the pockets of the rich, of the bosses just sees money disappear into a deep dark bank account, possibly offshore, never to see the light of day again. Of course to do that might mean increasing wages which is the last thing these sorry idiots have said they can do because of the inflation issue, so just how exactly will they get on with halving inflation this year and growing the economy too? Part of this will be from newly created high paid jobs apparently, that old chestnut again, but where are they coming from? What will they be in? Where will they be? It’s a platitude we’ve been told before over and over that has never materialised. Our economy is built on the backs of the ordinary people that work in it. Where they have been put upon for years, economic growth has stagnated for years. Only a fundamental shift, which goes against Tory ideology, Thatcherite mentality to its core will deliver that change. We’ll never see it under a Tory government, blue or red. Rishi, I don’t believe you sunshine.
Sunak’s third brainwave of miniscule proportions is to reduce the national debt. This one annoys me intensely because it’s still the ultimate gaslight and it’s back on show, that they’re telling us the UK economy works like a household budget. It does not. They can print as much money as they like to pay for stuff as I’ve already said, we can’t, we’d get arrested for trying. Who do we owe debt to? Ourselves. We ‘borrow’ from the Bank of England and ‘pay it back’ at mates rates. Paying it back is done in the form of tax take, which keeps inflation down and keeps our currency afloat if done right, but that doesn’t necessitate actually paying the debt back. This country has been building up a national debt since the Napoleonic War, which is when the Bank of England was formed – it was formed from a syndicate of city traders who first bought an issue of government debt from William III. The Bank of England itself is built on the promise of paying this debt back, but it never has been, it’s risen and fallen over the years ever since. The Bank of England was literally formed to cater to this debt. Take a banknote out of your wallet, assuming you have one and read the words on the Queen’s head side: ‘I promise to pay the bearer on demand the sum of’…whatever denomination you’re holding. It’s a promisory note, a little piece of the national debt in the palm of your hand. It really is time politicians got called out for their dishonest representation of what debt really means on a national level.
Sunak has also pledged to get NHS waiting lists down. I’ve spoken a lot about the NHS in more recent vids, so I’m not going to get into those in a big way here again, but with the staffing crisis, the refusal to engage with striking NHS workers via their unions, the refusal to bring back the NHS workers we sorely miss and badly need driven away by Brexit, or have left through being burnt out and other factors – getting that waiting list down from some 7 million people as it stands right now? You aren’t doing this overnight, you cannot train the necessary staff here overnight, it will take years and if you try and fast track that in any way it will threaten lives. Renationalise the service whilst you’re at it so its capable of standing on it’s own two feet again and the record funding going in is actually going into the real NHS and not privatised offshoots wearing the logo.
Sunak’s final point though, was to address small boat crossings. He’s again said he’ll stop them. Rishi, there’s only one way you can stop them and that’s to put the people traffickers out of business. The only way you can put them out of business is not to keep giving the French more money and sending our border resources and our police over there to help, it's to provide a safe route to apply for asylum here, the likes of which hasn’t existed in the UK since the days of Tony Blair. Fix that, you’ll stop the vast majority of crossings, because nobody will need to use a small boat any more. Arguably it’s the easiest one of his list to fulfil, it requires a straightforward piece of legislation, but it’ll never come from a Tory.
As per usual, it’s a lot of promises that won’t be fulfilled, but, hey, its 5 things he can be held to account over going forwards when he inevitably fails to deliver as Tories always do.
