Taste of Poverty is a blog concept slash thing I did in a panic over 2023 I've had around for a very long time and as my salary ended up getting worse before it got better than became unemployed, it is something that I used to express my general anger on the whole capitalism problem.
While I'm looking at things I can do here on this platform to help fund my projects and inevitably become a part of a more long term and consistent salary (I'm freelance so being self reliant on my income is a overall thing I have to think of all the time - don't even get me started on the whole MoNiTiSe YoUr PaSsIoNs) of what additional things I can do that people would want to support.
I'm not going to lie here, in terms of my financial state it wavers between OK and bad as prices blow up, my supplier rates speed through the roof, and the cost of onions reaches new peaks. This means that unlike 2023 I'm sometimes in a bad place and when I'm counting pennies out in the supermarket it makes me utterly enraged to basically have three jobs and still be broke.
Those vibes are bad and I have too high of a blood pressure to be doing that. People in the past have said to me personally they found the blog was funny and they enjoyed it. On my side of this the version I created is not something I'm totally happy with as I threw it up in a situation I could only describe as existential dread. I can only really highlight this by saying, I got declined by restos du coeur for ongoing support because on paper I made too much money while the reality was my bank account was empty within three hours of receiving it and only paying my bills.
Admittedly (and publically I might add) I did use AI to slop out the classic receipe blogger nonsense tales, I would have prefered to do this by hand but honestly I wanted it to look cheap and desperate because it truely was. The food receipes themselves I wrote on my own and I did take notes (sometimes) as I was making this diabolical food that I only ate to survive.
Recently due to a few events (I'll write about this another time) that swallowed up my funds, I've had to pull out the old tricks to make meals on basically a budget where salt is too expensive, this has motivated me to again pull out The Taste of Poverty. As my situation isn't dire, I can this time throw more humour in to it rather than some of the previous posts that were a mix of a cry for help, destitution, and a splash of mental breakdown.
I will slowly be bringing in the old posts (again aren't high quality in the slightest) which will clutter this page as I can't set post dates on this platform and since I'm going to make them supporters only (one time or membership) I don't want people to get the wrong idea here. I'm also very aware about the optics of paywalling receipes that are meant for a non-existent budget, but trust me on this one, you do not want to recreate my desperate meals, I'm a shit cook, there are much better people to look to for a real receipe that won't make you cry in shame.
However, that said, if by some miracle I actually do pull off a decent low budget receipe I will keep that post as public with humour and all. That also said I'm not beyond giving away free memberships for people who, like myself at times, barely have a penny to rub together, which is probably why I'm really terrible at doing capitalism.
This is a lot of words to say, until the old archive has been moved over and the old site has been migrated please don't feel obliged to support for that content alone. I don't feel the old stuff is worth anything and I'd rather have you support on honest terms for other projects or some other things I'm writing about as I figure out how to balance content here with content on my site.
