Today I've been working on my site as it needed a little upkeep, today I also have the unfortunate situation of fully understanding how financially screwed I am until I can pick up another client or 40.
Since I have to be in that grindset mindset for literally every penny I can get at, I had a think about how I can go about this in the most ethical way. I currently use Hostafrica for the two VPS that I run the chatmail relays on and checking their affiliate programme out, there is a possibility that somebody could indirectly help fund the VPS costs.
The reality is, when I was fully funemployed I was somehow 100€ a month better off than being on the legal minimum wage and getting a suppliment from the remaining unemployment days I have left. Of course this doesn't really count for electricity being 150€ more expensive than it was two years ago and the price of onions slowly becoming a luxury product, even pasta is stupidly priced.
To give you an idea of the overall costs from the chatmail relays are at the moment :
- IS : 8€/month
- JP : 4$/month
- KE/ZA : 6€ each/month (12€/mo)
- Total costs are around 23,50€ a month which isn't so much in the grand scale of things but when you're penny pinching its complicated.
I'm lucky in the respect that I have a couple of paid clients who have effectively made sure that my Hetzner servers are paid up for the year.
On the brightside my mental state hasn't taken such a huge hit this time, if anything I'm more annoyed that the powers that be have put us all collectively in the most bullshit of economic requirements that are unsustainable so line may continue to go up. The irony of my salary going 100% to my landlord is also not lost on me, I work so somebody else can have the home I live in and a life I have no chance in affording.
