I've been reading Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich for many years, and one story has stayed with me.
A young man wanted a particular job, but instead of simply submitting an application, he researched the company and the position first.
What he discovered changed his approach.
He realized he didn't have to start in his dream role. He just needed to get his foot in the door.
So he looked for a way to enter the company, even if it wasn't the position he ultimately wanted. Once inside, he focused on proving his value, building trust, and learning everything he could.
He was even willing to work without pay at first because he believed that demonstrating his worth would eventually put him in a stronger position to negotiate the career he really wanted.
It's an interesting strategy, especially in a world where so many people expect immediate results.
