September Weekend Lemon Disco!

A glorious HELLO to you! I hope this post finds you well and feeling grooooovy... if you are feeling distinctly un-vibe-y NOT TO WORRY. Lemon Disco is back on the 22 September (Not 23rd!!, Just realised school closed on the Friday!) in Pollokshields full of whizz bang zesty moves to spare!

The summer was a glorious whirl of dancing for me, as the Lemon was (mostly) put to one side and I spurred on and shared dances in and about the Glasgow area. You may have seen the Boogie Butterfly strutting down Albert Drive with her kaleidoscope of butterflies as part of the Hidden Gardens Big Picnic Parade, or the Boogie Unicorn in Strathclyde Country Park for the Big Family Day Out with Mini Manoeuvres or Merchant City for their annual Festival.... thousands of dancers joined in the fun, Scotland was vibrating with laughter and good grooves. YAAAAS!

This will (probably) be my only disco for the Autumn. As the days pull in and get darker (and wetter) the practicalities of setting up an outdoor disco become more tricksy. THAT SAID. I am plotting with the Pollokshields Library to set up a "DANCE COSTUME WORKSHOP" afterschool project.

"WHAT IS A DANCE COSTUME WORKSHOP" you ask?

Reflecting on the needs of the community and most importantly WHAT IS FUN -it will involve the following

-weekly afterschool workshops for kids which involve costume making and dancing. (!!!) (I know too fun right?)

-for ease of supporting families these workshops will also involve a walking bus from the four Pollokshields schools (ie. our team will collect participants from school at 3pm and walk them to library)

-An afterschool snack

The general atmosphere of the workshops (as with all my work) will involve supporting the kids own ideas and creativity. To that end I also plan to have regular sharings of their ideas for families to be able to see. This is not in a formal way, but more like when I was a kid and we would make shows on the fly in all their chaos, madness and marvellous beautiful creativity. SO more on that later.

In the meantime the Disco Lemon (or other costumed incarnation in the day to day (look out your window!!)) will be out and about in the Shields from next week spreading joy and dances AND you all can get involved in the Disco on the 23rd. Any financial support you can give is ALWAYS appreciated and goes right back into the community and for the kids.
