I've been absent for quite a while. Life has been a rollercoaster!
But I'm back. Right on time for 2026!
Happy New Year!
Here, I'm posting another sketchbook drawing of another Twisted Wonderland character I made a bit ago. This time it is our dear Cater (or as his fans in Magicam call him, Cay-Cay). This layered character seems to have a cheerful personality all the time, and is always taking pics to post to the web (think Snapchat, TikTok, Instagram-kinda addict). But he hides many more feelings behind that smile than he lets on (including a very likely depression), and a much sharper brain than others know.
The reason I decided to draw him in his Sleepwear Outfit is that it's really hard to find a moment where he's not posing or pretending to be happy (tech it could be argued he's doing it again here), and it's refreshing to see him more loose, more relaxed. Even his earring is off, and his hair is messy. His phone, which he of course keeps with him all the time, was even excluded, because I'm sincerely tired of seeing him with that blasted thing xD
I think I really have a thing for drawing characters in the most authentic ways I can find them, and I'm learning that about myself. I think authenticity is something extremely important to me.
Also! Artistically, I used brown markers instead of black ones. Yay~! I'd been meaning to do that. I think the difference isn't all that obvious, but it does make the general feeling of the piece come across as mellower and smoother. Maybe it softens the edges and makes it look a notch more real and warm, instead of outright cartoonish (since lines don't really exist in real life). I'll keep experimenting and seeing how it all goes!
Oh! Finally, I also tried to make a video of it. That was its own mess that I won't elaborate on for now. At least I could show you the .gif. It's amazing how a drawing shapeshifts so much, isn't it?
Despite whatever this year brings, I hope you all find the strength to be kind and compassionate to others, but also to yourselves, and that despite the cruelty of this world, you can find in you the meaning to be warmth to your own heavy hearts, just like a loving mother cradles her own child.
