Just uploading universal downloads. Freestyle... Free flow.. Unpolished... You know. Sometimes you just gotta yell words into your computer ya dig? • Bad Bunny says that he doesn’t want Puerto Rico to turn into Hawai’i. But with the mirroring realities of both of these island nations has really got me thinking the opposite lately… I don’t want Hawai’i to become Puerto Rico. I’m seeing friends and family back home on Oahu throw out food from the fridge for the first time because the power hasn’t come back yet. That is a regular occurrence here in Puerto Rico. I’m seeing people borrow generators from their friends because they don’t have one and the stores are already sold out. Here in Puerto Rico people won’t rent from a place that doesn’t have its own water and electrical source because those who live here know better than to trust the government supplied systems. At home, I’m seeing people in shock at how “something like this could happen here” ~ look around it’s happening in many places. The illegally occupied state of Hawai’i is one of America’s favorite experiment islands. But the “special treatment” is only kept because it’s a part of the façade. They want to sell a paradise escape so they need to provide basic necessities. Or do they? What happens when all inclusive resorts a.k.a. its own 15 minute micro city… gets built in the town next-door to you and simply because of their tax bracket and ethnic backgrounds they are allocated more resources than you are? Well, apparently you just forget about it and go to a concert designed to pacify you 🥲 Or you could go watch the 2011 movie “In Time” and draw parallels between the zones in the movie and our countries in real life. Or you somehow come up on my video and say well look at this weirdo out here delivering such an intricate message in an entertaining, educational and enlightening way. This morning before I was able to put together this reel & caption I had a block… so I did a freestyle spoken word session thing which I fortunately recorded ~ it’s over on my buy me a coffee. A little too raw for Instagram. But the sentiment is the same. All this fighting each other is exactly what our collective oppressors wants. Take up space and tell your story. Claim the resources you need. Aloha, JFS
