I love to capture footage from legacy media (VHS, Betamax, and older analog video) and edit the captured footage into compilation clips and more. I've been running my own YouTube channel for about 5 years now. I have a Panasonic AG-1980 VCR and a Sony Super Beta SL-HF860D for capturing media. All of this started when I moved out of my childhood home, my dad wanted to throw out a giant bin of VHS and betamax tapes. I said "nuh uh, I'll figure out what to do with them". I researched on the best methods and practices for capturing tapes so you can eventually get 4k 60fps as the final result.
All of this, the sourcing of video tapes, capturing, editing, and maintaining 30, 40 year old electronics is something I do in my own free time and my own money. I want to share the media I collect for everyone to see, it makes no sense to me to hide media away in a vault for nobody to see ever again.
It's not easy nor cheap to repair and find replacement parts for the VHS and Betamax VCRS. In the last 2 years for example, the Betamax had to be repaired, twice, to get it up and running again. Each instance was over $300 to get the betamax working again. Unfortunately my betamax is on the fritz again and I don't have the money to repair it anytime soon. I want to either save up to fix the betamax, or buy a whole other deck, so I can continue to capturing legacy media and share it for others.
