Thank you, and big new release

Firstly, a big thank you to you all for your generosity in supporting the Noctography project - it really does mean a lot and has encouraged me to keep building the app towards what I’d originally envisioned.

Today we issued a pretty major upgrade, v2.0.0. Within it, you can now make realistic composition simulations from anywhere in the world using real terrain relief information and satellite colouring, so the comp should appear fairly close to what you’ll end up shooting in the field. I’ve wanted to do this for a long time - to be able to plan compositions from the comfort of my armchair on those cloudy nights. You can see in the promo pic below an example of a Milky Way panorama image that I’ve longed to capture from the UK’s Lake District - now I “just” need to make the 250 mile drive and hike the 900m up at the right time of year!!

Also in this release - live Aurora reporting, so you can see where there are real (positive or negative) reports, comet info for anything worth flagging, a desktop version so you can plan on a bigger screen, and a wholesale reorganisation and de-cluttering.

I’ll be making some videos to introduce the various parts of the app over the next few weeks - make sure you’re subscribed to my channel so you don’t miss them. And let me know if there are any burning questions you’d like answered.

Hope your enjoy it, and let me know your thoughts.

Thanks so much,

Paul ✨📷
