About Joy in Minnesota
If you started following me, I hope that it is because you saw one of my posts and thought, “Wow, I never knew that!” That is one of my favorite feelings and I love to share with others.
I grew up in Iowa, and I only vaguely remember the required 5th grade state history class. About the only thing that stuck is that there were buffalo in Iowa. 🦬 Now that I’ve lived in Minnesota for over 20 years and never got the chance to learn even the basics of Minnesota history, I feel like it’s time to learn a little - or a lot - more. As I do, I’m discovering how that history affects us today, recurring themes, missed opportunities, unrecognized triumphs and lessons we could all benefit from knowing. I’m not interested in the nostalgic, glossy version either. I want the facts from all sides with an honest appraisal of the strengths and failures along the way. The more I learn, the more connected I feel to this place I call home and the more pride I have in my fellow Minnesotans. I’m finding my “Joy in Minnesota”. What makes it even more fun is sharing with you!
