Hello, my lovely people!
I've just published a new video about the recent riots in France, and I thought you might find the circumstances behind it rather amusing.
I've been receiving comments from viewers saying they're reconsidering moving to France because of the violence shown on the international news.
Which is completely understandable.
Except that I live in France. I'm French. I've been here for 46 years.
And I didn't even know these riots were happening until my foreign viewers informed me.
Apparently, the revolution has become an international event requiring overseas notification.
But there's a serious point behind the absurdity.
I've spent a good part of my life watching France protest, strike and occasionally turn rather violent. I also stopped following the daily news years ago, because I realised how much constant exposure to negative stories was affecting my outlook.
In this video, I explore how real events can create a misleading impression when they're repeatedly presented without the geographical context that would help viewers understand them.
And why the France you see burning on television may be very different from the France where millions of people are getting on with their ordinary Tuesday.
