Hello!
This is a video from a workshop I recently conducted at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley, California. We went over some fundamental techniques for learning gypsy jazz, which you can also apply to jazz guitar.
I learned about the proper way to hold the guitar pick while studying jazz manouche in Paris with Eduord Pennes of the "RP Quartet." There is a chromatic line you can practice. It is crucial to use minimal motion with your arm; if you feel a lot of motion and your arm is bouncing around, you will need to adjust. It is also very important not to grip the pick too tightly.
Check out the video and let me know what you think!
Exciting news!
I am thrilled to announce our first Gypsy Jazz Immersive Learning Camp this October in the charming city of Ashland, Oregon, from October 3rd to 6th. We'll be staying(other lodging options possible) and jamming at the historic Columbia Hotel, nestled right in the heart of downtown. With delightful restaurants just a stroll away and the enchanting Lithia Park nearby—ideal for jamming sessions and more—you’ll be immersed in an inspiring environment.
