Angelo Debarre "After You've Gone" Arpeggio lick!

Jul 03, 2024

Hello!

Today we will tackle another "arpeggio" lick, similar to what Django plays, but this time by none other than the legendary Angelo Debarre. This lick is from the legendary record "Gypsy Guitars," from Angelo's solo on "After You've Gone." This record was one of the leading forces in bringing the music of Django Reinhardt back to life during the late '80s/early '90s. I highly recommend checking it out!

What I like about this lick is that it is very Django-esque, but completely in Angelo's style. He approaches the arpeggios in different spots where Django would not. It also outlines a lot of chord changes (Amin | E7 | Amin | Cmin | G | B7 | Emi | A7) which are not super common, but luckily, you can adjust these arpeggios to the right chords over different progressions. Try moving them over different chords you see in other standards.

Make sure you practice this slowly! As usual, I have put the original lick in the YouTube description with a timestamp.

Enjoy!
