Let's Talk About Money

Let's Talk About Money

Oct 07, 2026

I listened to a podcast (Trevor Noah's "What Now" Podcast to be exact). In his conversation with his team about money. They were about to interview Bill Gates and he was asking (and please pardon me because I don't remember the actual question and no, I am not going to look it up) them about having money. I won't get in to everyone's answers but his response to it all was the best.

People want to be rich because they want access to things. If they had access to things (homeownership, travel, cars, healthcare etc), then they would not need money. This is not an attempt at a debate but I found that to be true.

As I age I realize how little I really need to be comfortable in this life. The basics, of course (detached sole housing, a working vehicle, electricity, running water) I don't want millions but if my car acts up, I want there to be the means to fix it, if I get sick or my dog, I want to afford the care. No loans, no payment plans, no credit cards. I just want to survive and maybe travel when I feel like it. How about you?
