Life has a way of playing cat and mouse with us. We move forward step by step and then out of nowhere the goal we were trying to achieve pulls a hard left; we know crossing traffic isn't my idea of fun.
We're midway through March and had things gone accordingly, I would be walking around with pain from surgery and not from my horrid 90+year old hips I already own. Yup that's right. The first hip replacement was cancelled due to neither set of doctors wanting to take responsibility for my post op pain. The surgeon gave a whole list to my pharmacy and the pain office was going to order Tylenol and a muscle relaxer. You read that correctly - one 500mg tablet every four hours. When I asked what muscle relaxer they were going to order and what dosage, since I've tried so many. Are we doing two relaxers + Tylenol+ current pain medicine? Not to mention two visits ago, the provider Laughed in my face. No, no one has apologized either.
I also did a trial in order to see if a pain pump would offer any kind of relief. Of course the lovely doctors always want things in percentages. For the trial, I was to stay all day in trouble surgery center so the nurses could observe and make sure I wasn't having an unknown reaction.
Before the procedure, I was unable to move my legs freely. I couldn't sit in a bed and swing my legs up without help. If someone was assisting with my bedding and covering my feet, the pain would feel like fire running up my legs. Not to mention the terrible edema. Even at the early morning check in, the anesthesiologist poked my ankles and feet to see how "fun" the putting was. A few hours after the surgery, the nurse was adjusting my bedding (my feet dangled off the bed lol) and I didn't feel any pain as she covered my feet with blankets. It was such a weird experience, so decided to try to lift my legs in bed and move them up and down as if splashing in a pool. I could do it! I didn't have move the right leg manually with my hands and my left leg didn't feel so heavy on its own. My nurse, Francesca, then suggested we go for a walk. The fear must have been on my face because she quickly changed it to the bathroom which I agreed (even if I didn't really need to go. Fyi post surgical procedure even if you don't feel like it you will need to hit that potty as soon as you stand - the body is a wonderful machine). I was able to walk throughout the whole building and outside into the parking lot! It was mind-blowing. Apparently it was pretty remarkable to the staff.
So yay! Successful trial. Sign me up, I'll be there tomorrow, etc etc, as I joke about the implant schedule. Well, it's been two weeks and guess what.... "You're so complex". Wtf. I'm getting tired of jumping through every hoop, keeping a smile on my face, and so on. I keep pushing forward as people throw things in the way and still not good enough. When is the finish line going to stop moving farther and farther?
Ugh. So next on the list we have steroid injections to lube up my jacked hips. In order to have surgery I needed to be free of injections for 90 days. Then the month I waited when postponed in February and now the current time line we're in. I'm in excruciating pain and want to seek relief any way possible- so I'm getting the injections done one way or another. On top of that, my knees practically sing to the world as they snap crackle and pop with every step. So those are on the calendar too. (I already fear I will have to fight to have both jabbed at the same time. It makes no sense to do one and then do the other when I've already done both in the past. That's a failure on docs reading my records. Plain and simple).
So happy Monday the 16th. I truly hope my birthday in five days is a bit better than how I feel today. 🫠
