New Orleans mayor says flying economy unsafe for black women refuses to repay $30k of taxpayer cash
New Orleans Democrat mayor has declared economy class flights unsafe for black women, while insisting she won't repay $30,000 of taxpayers' money blown on first-class flights to France and Switzerland.
Speaking at a press conference Thursday, LaToya Cantrell said: 'My travel accommodations are a matter of safety, not of luxury.
Is this Mayor serious right now? This is what happens when you have someone who is in public office for themselves and not for the public she is supposed to represent.
Cantrell spent around $10,000 on her own flat bed seat and blew a similar amount on a first-class return to France earlier this year - while her aides traveled in coach.
Cantrell has defended her purchase of the luxury tickets as her both 'doing business' on behalf of the city and because she believes it wouldn't be safe for her to travel in economy class.
While she sat in first class, her security detail and the rest of her team sat in coach. Then she tells everyone it’s for her safety and it’s because she is a woman, a mother and a black woman that she feels it is unsafe to travel coach. Therefore, travelling first class is just adding extra safety that a black woman specifically needs.
The most outrageous thing about this whole situation is that Cantrell is putting this excuse out there and asking the public to take her seriously. Does she actually believe her own lies?
I think Proverbs describes Mayor Cantrell best.
Proverbs 14:1
The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish pulls it down with her hands.
This is just my opinion.
