I'm Jeff. 47, Senior Software Engineer, 30 years in IT — though "in IT" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. I started messing with code in the mid-90s, spent six years as a Radio Maintainer in the Air Force (2002–2008), and eventually landed in software development full-time about 17 years ago. It hasn't been a straight line, but the scenic route had better stories.

I write C++, Rust, Perl, Python, and Go professionally. I build things in my homelab obsessively. I'm unreasonably interested in Kubernetes, blockchain infrastructure (Algorand and Hedera, specifically), and making AI do the typing while I do the thinking.

My gamer tag from the 90s was "xcaliber" and I never outgrew it. "Gobha" is Irish for Smith, which is my actual last name and slightly more professional for public-facing things.

I believe in building in the open, being honest about what AI can and can't do, and occasionally finishing a side project. Two out of three ain't bad.
