It is precisely in Christianity that the principle of non-duality, or Oneness, reaches its highest expression—in the person of Jesus Christ. However one might formulate it doctrinally, the fact remains: the one person and being of Jesus Christ is both God and Man. In Jesus Christ, the divine and the human, the heavenly and the earthly, are truly One.
The incarnation of Jesus Christ represents the culmination of the paradox of Oneness: God and man are not opposed to each other but united in one person. This union is not a mere metaphor or symbol, but a reality that shatters dualism and unites what humanity has been accustomed to divide—sacred and secular, spirit and body, the infinite and the finite.
In this sense, Christ is not merely a mediator between God and humanity, but the very point of unity—He is that unity. This is a fascinating moment in Christian thought because it shows that the Absolute does not appear outside or above the world, but within it, as a concrete person. It is not just a matter of God appearing like a man, but of the true, real union of divinity and humanity in the person of Jesus.
John deliberately uses the term Logos (the Word), which carries profound philosophical significance—in the Hellenistic world it referred to the divine reason that orders the universe, while in Judaism it evokes the creative Word of God from Genesis (“And God said, ‘Let there be…’”). That same Logos does not remain abstract, but enters into history, into the material, into the flesh.
Interestingly, while many Eastern philosophies seek to transcend duality through the loss of personal identity in the universal One, Christianity preserves personhood at the very core of Oneness—in the Person of Christ. Thus, the One is not impersonal, but deeply personal, offering profound hope and meaning—not the dissolution into the One, but the full realization of relationship with it.
