SMLIAG Chapter 114 - Purification

SMLIAG Chapter 114 - Purification

Oct 28, 2024

The moment she saw the carriage, she wondered if the things mentioned in the novel were taking place.

‘If I remember correctly, there was only one reason why they would sneak out during the night.

A moon that seemed to have swallowed half the sky.

Today, under the night sky with a full moon, Yura's miracle would unfold.

"Yura dipped her feet in the river as everyone stood and watched.

She purified the river by unleashing her silver magic.

It was a sight reminiscent of the silver Milky Way rising above her head into the black darkness.

Everyone looked on in amazement.

And after a while, everyone burst into admiration in unison.

“Wow!"

"Wow, it's beautiful."

Soon, the river water, which had been dark enough to swallow even light itself, began to sparkle.

Yura gradually waded deeper into the water. The water that had come up to her ankles soon came up to her chest.

It was a dirty river filled with filth, but Yura was fine.

She invoked her last miracle.

"Please, Luz, give beautiful light to this river filled with dirty darkness."

The little lights that twinkled in the river spread all at once.

Before she knew it, the river was full of light.”

There is no detailed method or explanation for how the river was purified.

Why was that?

There was no explanation for the heroine’s demonstration of her abilities.

So, it was the same now.

Of course, Rosa wasn't one to give up just because she didn't know anything.

Hiorin was intertwined in all this. That alone made her thoughts abound.

‘I'm sure there's something...….’

"Whoa, whoa."

When she saw the carriage parked at the entrance to the village, she stopped her at a distance.

It was so she could move secretly.

First, the horse was left in a corner of an alley and then she slipped into the crowd.

Strangely, people were coming out of their houses one by one even though it was late.

They stumbled to the river and moaned.

"Ugh, why are the priests waking us all up?"

"Well, they purified the river slightly this morning and are now going to make it completely clear."

"In the middle of the night?"

"Ugh, I’m tired. I saw it during the day, and they said it was slightly purified, but it quickly became dark again...….”

Rosa pulled her hood up more while listening to their complaints.

Then she began to speed up her step.

"Excuse me for a moment."

She slowly pushed her way through the crowd of people who gathered by the riverside.

They were malnourished, so they were helplessly pushed back as she made her way through.

She was able to get to the front row quickly.

Rosa looked around to see where Yura was.

"There she is."

It was Yura, with long jet-black hair, wearing a dress with the symbol of Luz on it.

Yura stood barefoot, as she had in the book.

She'll be going into the river soon.

Rosa’s mind worked fast. What kind of action should she take from now on?

Then she saw it.

"What is that?"

A glass bottle showing off a tiny sparkle in Yura's hand.

Yura fidgeted with her hands repeatedly as if the small bottle was uncomfortable to hold.

However, she never let go of the bottle even though she seemed uncomfortable.

Rather, she held it even tighter.

When she saw that, Rosa knew this was the answer.

"That's why you were squatting by the river."

She naturally linked it to Hiorin.

The face of her father, who died in a carriage accident, came to mind.

"No way."

Although the rain sped up the decomposition, she had identified her father's body with her own eyes.

He was clearly wearing his clothes and had the gold plaque.

It's a ridiculous thing to imagine.

She laughed at her own absurdity and tried to wave away these thoughts.

The person next to her cried out.

"Oh, the saint is going in."

She quickly looked up and stared ahead. To be precise, at the bottle Yura had in her hand.

Yura was going into the river.

She was very cleverly holding the glass bottle in her hand so that it was not visible and pouring something out of the spout.

Rosa didn’t have time to think.

For some reason, she knew she had to jump in there before Yura.

And she trusted her gut.

Without anyone being able to stop her, she jumped into the river.

"Oh! Oh!"

"Excuse me! Someone's going in!"

"Huh? Well, that person is...….”

It was a good thing that she jumped into the river.

However, the only drawback was that she hadn’t thought about what would happen next.

"Why here...….”

Her eyes met with Yura’s.

Her hood had been pulled back, and Yura realized who she was by looking at her purple veil.

She tried to treat Yura casually rather than make an excuse, but it happened the moment she tried to open her mouth.

Maybe she stepped on the wrong spot, but she fell into the water in an instant.

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!"

"Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!"

The cries of those watching them from the riverside rose louder and louder.

It was probably because Rosa.

Her body was being dragged into the river.

"Ugh."

She fell in defenselessly.

She hadn’t had a chance to hold her breath before falling into the water, so water kept entering her mouth.

She struggled.

She opened her eyes to try and find a way out.

She thought she wouldn't be able to see anything because of the black water, but...….

Strangely, the view was bright.

That didn't mean that the river had miraculously brightened, as in the book.

It literally felt like her vision had adapted to the darkness.

And the taste of the water on the tip of her tongue was strange. It felt bitter but drinkable.

Yeah. This was a familiar taste.

She had tasted various objects like this when she was young. When she cursed it, the water she drank tasted like this.

Funnily enough, just before she was about to pass out, her head became unusually clear.

Gulp.

‘Was the center of the river this deep?’

‘Or is my body gradually weakening due to the toxicity of the river?’

The end of her fading consciousness.

She saw a person approaching through this black darkness.

It was like a cartoon. The moment he approached me, the lights in the river started to twinkle.

Like that, she was dragged out of the river, held in his cold hands.

"Huh…Cough, cough.”

She didn't even have time to come to her senses.

She was barely able to cough up the water that had filled her lungs, as she sat there gasping for breath.

For a while, she was so busy gasping for breath that she didn’t even look around.

A hand came into her view while her head was lowered.

A thin white hand...….

Slowly, she raised her head and looked at the owner of his hand. He was wearing a wolf mask.

She was going to call his name.

"...….”

As if he knew she'd call him, Enoch put his finger to his mouth.

He told her,

"Shhh."

She looked at him in a daze without realizing it.

The masked Enoch stayed by her side with his black hair hanging down.

"But why are you here...….”

"Because I heard that you were looking for me...….”

Enoch leaned over and whispered to her so that no one else could hear him.

It was such a quiet voice that the sound of his breathing was mixed in.

"That’s why I came."

It was a casual tone, as though he’d gone on a simple outing next door.

But it couldn't have been a normal outing.

I'm sure he used the spell for long-distance transportation, but he still came into this dirty river to save me...….

It was clearly an act that would cause tremendous physical and mental fatigue.

How could he be so reckless?

She struggled to get herself up. She was going to say something to Enoch.

But the moment she stood up,

"Oh, this is...….”

She wasn’t able to say anything.

This was because she was able to see not only the gazes of the people who were looking at her, but also the sight that was surrounding her.

Light floated around her like lanterns in the air against the backdrop of the vast moon.

These things were like the novel.

However, there were additional strange and beautiful scenes.

There were stags and fairies...….

Enoch approached her with a faint smile on his face after seeing her expression that was full of surprise.

Then he leaned his chin on her shoulder and explained everything to her.

"See that deer? It's a sorcerer's steed. I put some light magic on it for dramatic effect."

The shining deer circled only around her. Everyone's eyes were focused on following its movement.

Soon flowers bloomed near her, following the deer's hind legs.

Everyone burst into admiration.

This deer, which looked sacred, was a device that made her look like a special person.

"Can you see the hidden little humans hidden in the lights floating in the air? The mages hanging in the treetops are casting illusionary magic."

It was a more eye-catching group of lights than was mentioned in the novel.

The shape of small children that looked like fairies were running around in the halo of light.

It felt real.

‘But all of this is fake. It was painstakingly created for me...….’

She looked at Enoch’s expression.

Although she couldn't see Enoch’s face behind the mask, she somehow knew his expression.

‘He probably has a deep smile.’

"Since I came to see you, I wanted to help you, even if it was only a little. Was I helpful?"

“……Very."

It was more than helpful. It was overflowing.

Because these spells Enoch cast made her appear to be a special individual.

In fact, people were only looking at her, instead of Yura.

The villagers held their breath and paid attention to what she would do next.

And then,

"You!"

Yura screamed.

Until a moment ago she’d been frozen as if she couldn’t believe this situation.

‘It seems like you've finally come to your senses.’

“……What are you doing?"

She acted like she didn't understand Yura's words.

She pulled her hood back on and slowly asked back,

"What do you mean?"

Now that the lights were getting brighter, the river would soon clear up.

It was a crucial moment.

No matter how much Yura had laid the groundwork, if Rosa intercepted her plan, it was all over.

She smiled faintly and turned around again. Then she headed to the river.

Yura's expression changed completely.

She reached out towards her as if to pull her back.

But Rosa was faster.

"Oh, no!"

This time, she didn't do anything reckless like heading into the middle.

She took just one step into the river.

Then, the river, which was darker than the night sky, glistened mysteriously as if it contained the Milky Way.
