If you could relive one day from your past, which day would it be and why?
This is a tough one.
There are so many memories that I wish I could hold onto. The past tries to slip away, but I hold onto every piece tight, not wanting to let go.
Every single moment is important. Every person. Every sunrise. Every petal ruffling in the breeze. Every glint of light in a raindrop.
But if I had to choose one, only one, which would I choose? Would I relive a day of happiness, where my heart was full? I don’t think so, and here’s why.
Those happy moments have remained with me. They were never lost. When I think of them, my mind relives them. Memory is like a time machine without fancy tech and flashing lights. It takes us to the past, where we were once, and where we can be again.
No, I won’t relive a happy day.
I’ll relive a day I’ve forgotten.
A day that was let go of, or where moments have faded into haze.
A place my time machine cannot take me.
The last time I was with my grandfather, perhaps. As a 3-year old, bursting with excitement at being reunited with a grandparent, too innocent to know that he was fatally ill. A happy memory, but one stained with sadness.
I remember the moment, what I did, and what I thought. But I don’t remember his voice. If I relived a day from that era, I would find my grandfather’s voice again.
Some things we never meant to lose, but time takes them anyway.

It reminds me that the past is never truly gone. It’s with us every day. Sometimes it’s just a matter of finding it again.
