To be very honest, I’m just as amazed as you are about OpenCourt. This idea came about only recently when I got into tennis and started getting annoyed. Either courts were hidden, bookings were non refundable, no details on conditions of courts, and most annoyingly I couldn’t find a midpoint court between a friend in South West London and another in the East.
I put my problem solving skills to work and OpenCourt was born. It makes it simple to discover courts (and their reviews), find the ones that sit neatly between you and your friends, and check the basics like surface, lights, and whether you’ll be playing indoors or out.
OpenCourt was birth out of that frustration, but it’s become one of my favourite projects. I’ve poured a lot of evenings and “just one more tweak” sessions into it, and I maintain it alongside other responsibilities of mine. It’s completely free to use and I plan to keep it that way. Still, the hosting, databases, and other bits of tech that keep it running do add up.
