Look, I'll be direct: running a podcast costs money. My co-hosts are too polite to ask for help with that, but I'm happy to swallow my pride. I'm the one buying the equipment, paying for hosting and staying up late editing out the times my kids crash our recording sessions. Every penny we get goes right back into making this show better.
Here's the thing - when someone throws us a few bucks for coffee, it means they think what we're doing matters. That matters to us. It makes it worth it when Jim shows up in yet another suit (for a podcast, I know), when Peggy shares stories about her new grandbaby, when Beth takes us along on her Camino journey, and when Shelly says yes to every wild idea we throw at her. That $5 coffee? It tells us someone out there gets what we're trying to do here.
We started this podcast because Jim and I used to argue about everything when we were debate coaches. Now we argue about whether I should be allowed to put in ad breaks (I should). But what's really happened is we've built something none of us expected - a place where five pretty different people can talk about anything. Sometimes we disagree. Sometimes we laugh so hard we have to stop recording. Sometimes Jim walks off in anger at me. It all works.
If you decide to support us, you'll get behind-the-scenes stuff and first crack at new episodes (I promise I'll figure out how to do that if you donate). Most of all, you will get my eternal gratitude for not making me explain more equipment expenses to my husband. If you're another creator who wants to collaborate, reach out. Some of our best episodes have come from unexpected connections.
Thanks for considering it,
John
P.S. If you're curious about our actual costs or want to talk about the show, my email is right here. I love talking about this stuff - just ask my co-hosts who have to listen to me go on about microphone specs.
