Ignorance definitely is a bliss. If one is ignorant, then you are not aware of what is happening around you. You can follow the dictums of the society, religion and be happy. Society and religion also like you because you are one of the faithful sheep with no questions. So, everyone is happy. You are drugged into happiness. I would prefer that.
But the problem is one is aware at a very young age, one questions everything, nothing but Truth satisfies. When you are aware you are not in the slumber of ignorance.

Ignorance is not a deep darkness; it is simply like the twilight. No, there is no sun yet, there is no light of wisdom yet, but at the same time it is not the dark night of the ego. It is like twilight. Ignorance is to be standing on the threshold from where it is also possible to go toward the light. But as the vanity of the knowledgeable becomes stronger and stronger and the notion, “I know, I know, I know,” becomes firmer and firmer, his night becomes darker, his twilight disappears. He is now sinking deeper into darkness. And as his vanity grows from strength to strength, his night goes on becoming as dark as a moonless night.
