Tell us a bit about your influences.
“With Violet” is a five piece alt pop band whose influences and inspirations vary from member to member. This mixing pot of style and interest allows the band to create a sound that is unique to them. The band looks up to high-energy artists, 80’s bands that use the saxophone, and songwriters / lyricists such as Paul Simon, Bernie Taupin, and Elton John.
How did you start?
The members of “With Violet” are friends first - bandmates second. Their love for music and desire to play high-energy live shows was all the fuel they needed to get going. Since forming in 2019, the band has released three EP’s, two holiday singles, and has opened for Canada’s rock and roll sisters, “The Beaches" and “Walk Off The Earth” at the 2023 IceBerg Alley Performance Festival. What obstacles does an emerging artist have to face in our time?
Spotify releases roughly 60,000 new songs on their streaming platform every single day. It can be very difficult for emerging artists to break through all of the noise and to have their song be recognized among the thousands being released each day. With so much music being made and released, having yours be heard can be an obstacle in itself.
What worked for you marketing-wise? What advice or tips would you give to new artists?
“With Violet” has taken to their social media channels (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter) to help their music reach larger audiences. With over 2,000 combined followers, the band is able to keep fans up to date and aware of what is going on in “With Violet” world at any given time. The band has also done traditional media to promote their music such as radio and television interviews and has appeared on multiple podcasts to talk about new music, show dates, and more. “With Violet” encourages new artists to throw it all at the wall to see what sticks and to keep making music that is true to them. If you like the music you are creating, odds are somebody else will too.
What are your goals? Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years time, “With Violet” would like to see their music on everyone's playlist and would like to be touring through Canada, the United States, and Europe. “With Violet” gives their audiences an unforgettable energetic live show each time they play and hope to be touring through a city near you soon. The band hopes to play more festival stages and to have their songs be in the regular rotation on radio stations and playlists alike.
Tell us about your latest or upcoming release.
“Saturday Nights In Your Sunday Best” is the first full length album that With Violet is set to release. This album is a combination of the two EP’s - “Saturday Nights In” and “Your Sunday Best” and contains five brand new songs for listeners to enjoy. “Saturday Nights In Your Sunday Best” is the result of over 40 demos and countless hours in the studio. With the help of producer Matt Dines and manager/producer Dave Shears, the band has found their sound and is excited to show it off in their first full length album. The band teamed up with artist Victoria Walsh to create the imagery and art for the album and videographers Ryan Flanagan, Ben Mercer, and Kirk Stuckless to create the music videos for “Gravity” and “Mountains Are Calling”. The full length album is on its way and is set to be released early in 2024. In the meantime, you can listen to the “Saturday Nights In” EP and “Your Sunday Best” EP anywhere that you listen to music.
