Where can we find you right now and what are you up to?
Rock Revolution is a teenage band based in Newcastle Australia. Newcastle has a growing live music scene and has produced international acts like The Screaming Jets and a band we’d love to follow the footsteps of Silverchair that were signed and released their first album when they were 14.
Rock Revolution have played a few of Newcastles premier venues over the past year but most recently we competed in The Crusty Demons battle of the bands to be awarded the honour of playing live at the Motorsport event. Rock Revolution we’re awarded the opportunity to play at the Motorsport event and had a great time entertaining what was our largest audience to date.
Rock Revolution have released two singles this year. Soul and Breathing Space that followed our release of Jekkyl To Hyde late in 2022 and are working like crazy to record Love is free our newest single soon along with other works in progress.
You can keep up to date with us on our socials and Spotify:
Tell us a bit about your influences.
Our influences vary but are all basically rock influences.
Ethan’s - Kiss, Iron Maiden, Foo Fighters and loves the drumming of John Bonham of Led Zeppelin.
Oscar’s- Tool, Megadeath, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and the Fooies also
Jacob’s - Guns and Roses, RHCP, Foo Fighters, Baby Animals.
Evie’s - Taylor Swift, Garbage, Sticky Fingers
How did you start?
Rock Revolution was formed March 2021. Ethan’s drum teacher is Jacobs's dad's cousin who made the introduction. Jacob and Ethan jammed for a bit before they realised they knew of a guitarist the same age to approach Jamie Whyte who knew Evie and as simple as that the band was formed. Jamie lost interest and left for a metal band in November 22 paving the way for Oscar Webb to join on bass and gave Jacob the opportunity to take on lead guitar. The band has never looked back.
What obstacles does an emerging artist have to face in our time?
The biggest obstacle facing any band these days is just being heard. With over 100 million songs on Spotify there is just so many artists to compete with and establishing a fan base is difficult. This is even more difficult for us because our local music scene isn’t really embracing under age artists. We are really hopeful and believe we have something to share but we are at this point just having fun making our music and slowly growing our fan base through our social media avenues which to date really has been our biggest success in marketing ourselves.
What worked for you marketing-wise? What advice or tips would you give to new artists?
We are new to the music industry so giving advice to new artists will be limited to this, play and create music because you love it and have a passion for it like we do and if fame and fortune fall at your feet because you have worked hard enough and have enough collective talent to inspire people than that will be the universe rewarding your hard work and passion.
What are your goals? Where do you see yourself in five years?
As a band we have immediate goals to record our next single Love is Free ASAP and to complete enough songs to release an EP or album soon after. We hope our persistence in chasing gigs will open a few door’s regardless of our age. Without a doubt we would love to peruse music as an occupation and dream of following in Silverchair’s footsteps of touring and producing albums for years to come but are grounded enough to accept that music may still just remain a hobby and have to take on regular careers out of school.
A name change is also on the horizon as we feel Rock Revolution was more suited to a covers band and we are really motivated towards writing and producing our own music. This new name is eluding us at the minute but is a work in progress.
Tell us about your latest or upcoming release.
Our Latest single Love is Free, written by Evie is written about the security and safety you feel within your relationship. When external influences are trying to spiral your life out of control your partner can support you or as the lyrics say “ feeling like I’m drowning you pull me to safety “
We’re excited to share this single really soon.
