Introducing: Lunar Paths - August Issue

Aug 06, 2023

Where can we find you right now and what are you up to?

We are on all the usual music streaming and download platforms and social media. We are busily sticking to our goal of writing and releasing a new track every four to eight weeks. We have one new track that’s almost ready, a load of material in the pipeline, and plenty of exciting projects to look forward to working on.

Tell us a bit about your influences.

Our musical influences are many and varied. In a recent interview with A&R Factory, we listed Avalanches, KLF, Dengue Dengue Dengue, The Creatures, Gang of Four, Boards of Canada, Pixies, Bjork, Killing Joke, Alessandro Striggio, Ministry, First Nation music, Joy Division, Yard Act, Roza Eskenazi, Idles, Skinny Puppy, The Veldt, Portishead, Bob Vylan, Radiohead, Underworld, Sun’s Signature, Chemical Brothers, The Streets, tAngerinecAt, Legendary Pink Dots, Coil, Basil Kirchin, Fred again.., Marxman, Earthlings, She Wants Revenge, Young Gods, NuKreative, The Soft Moon... and that’s just the tip of a massive iceberg!

How did you start?

We were in a band together decades ago, but we lost touch, until we stumbled across each other again on social media in 2021. It quickly became apparent that we were both bursting with ideas for new songs, inspired by the music that we made back in the day, but also by the amazing and diverse music that we had both been enjoying since then.

What worked for you marketing-wise so far?

Hashtags and networking. When we began, we didn’t really know what genre of music we belonged to, so at first it was really hard, but the postpunk, darkwave and goth communities reached out to us and claimed us as one of their own. Since then, it’s been much easier to hashtag, to find, post and make friends in appropriate social media interest groups and to know which radio shows to target.

What are your goals? Where do you see yourself in five years?

We live thousands of miles apart from each other, and on different continents, so all our work to date has been online. We would love to play live, and we are actively making plans to realise that goal. We want to grow our catalogue of releases and put out an album each year. We have already had a couple of tracks feature on compilation albums, and we would love to see more of that happen; if a label would take the next step by helping us to realise our dream of touring and supporting us in our efforts to grow our fanbase, we would of course be interested in a deal.

Tell us about your latest or upcoming release.

We released our thirteenth track, Heartshot, in June 2023, and it’s already had lots of airplay and attention. We are currently working on our next release, a big, muscular floor-filler based almost entirely on drums, crackly sequencers and vocals, plus a couple of killer samples. There’s another track for another compilation album on the Unknown Pleasures label that we’ve begun to sketch out, and we would love to do some remix EPs of a couple of our singles, offering dub and dance versions, for example. We have some audio ready and waiting for the follow-up to the current work in progress, which looks like being a gothy, shoe-gazey kind of thing—but it’s always a joy and a surprise to see how each new track turns out, because, between conception and completion, anything can happen!
