Introducing: IVY FLINDT - September Issue

Sep 13, 2023

Where can we find you right now and what are you up to?

We are focussing on new song and sound ideas currently, exploring where we wanna  go next. Very exiting!

Tell us a bit about your influences.

Cate: Rather than naming other musicians, it really is the world around me, the  people I meet. It’s often catching up on stuff, checking in with myself, turning life,  which just happens, into something beautiful, which I created.

Micha: I grew up with both classical music and pop music and moved on to rock and  jazz music and every other kind of music that attracted me. Similar to what Cate  pointed out, I can’t spot single artists as a main influence. I am inspired by music, art,  nature, city sounds, conversations.

How did you start?

Cate: I met Micha at the music college, someone recommended to ask him about  joining in when we needed a bass player for rehearsal and I approached him on the  side walk, when he was about to leave. ‘Hey, you. You play bass, don’t you?’

Micha: Exactly, that’s how it started! It was about checking out Cate’s early songs at  the college. We felt that our collaboration is something special both artisticly and  emotionally, so we just kept going and a few years later we found ourselves recording  our first studio album in Sweden.

What obstacles does an emerging artist have to face in our time?

Cate: I never used to think that’s important, but I do now: To turn your music into  some kind of money is the hardest challenge.

Micha: That’s true. Since most indie artists are self managed, it’s a permanent  struggle between keeping your art pure and real and at the same time making the  economical side work. This is really two jobs at the same time.

What worked for you marketing-wise? What advice or tips would you give to  new artists?

Cate: Don’t pay to play unless you really have the money to spend. Keep it small,  keep it simple. Watch your resources. Really important.

Micha: Keep your name clean. Watch what you get known for. Don’t make rubbish.

What are your goals? Where do you see yourself in five years?

Cate: I always suck at the ‘goals question‘. I am taking it step by step. Micha: I’m very exited to see where our new recordings will lead us to.

Tell us about your latest or upcoming release.

Cate: Oooh, that was a thrill, first time playing live in German TV.

Micha: Indeed! Our latest release is a live LP that we recorded for German TV show  WDR ROCKPALAST and is called „In Every Move - Live At Rockpalast“. You can  listen to it at our Spotify, as well as to our studio LP „In Every Move“.
