Frostgrave builder update: campaign mode and full equipment handling

Aug 31, 2026

Hi Guys! Based on some feedback we received (thanks, Andy and Neil), we’ve made some long-overdue upgades on the Frostgrave builder.

Two updates to the Frostgrave warband builder. The first is a new campaign mode that tracks a warband between games. The second completes how equipment works on the roster.

Campaign mode (new)

You can now turn a warband into a campaign warband. A header bar at the top of the roster tracks four things:

Experience and level: total XP, current level, and how much XP remains to the next level. Vault: your gold and every item stored between games. Base: your base and its upgrades. Games: how many games this warband has played.

The main action is Log Game, which opens the post-game sequence. It has five steps, in order:

XP: Record the experience earned: the wizard taking part, treasure tokens secured, spells cast, creatures killed, failed casts that caused damage, and any scenario bonus. The builder applies the rules for you: spells with a casting number of 6 or less give no XP, and the total is capped at 300 per game.

Treasure: For each treasure token secured, resolve the treasure table. Results (gold, potions, scrolls, grimoires, magic items and weapons) go into your vault.

Survival: For each figure taken out of the game, roll to see whether it survives, is injured, or dies. Includes permanent injuries for the wizard and apprentice.

Recruit and buy: Hire or dismiss soldiers, and buy grimoires, scrolls, and potions with your vault gold.

Level Up: Spend the levels you gained. The rulebook limits you to one stat improvement and one spell improvement per game; learning new spells from grimoires has no limit, and any level you do not spend is banked for a later game.

Every step that involves a die roll gives you a choice: Roll here to let the app roll, or Roll manually to enter a result you rolled at the table.

Two more tools sit in the header:

Vault: stores your gold, grimoires, scrolls, potions, magic items, and magic weapons between games.

Base: after your first game you can establish a base. There are eight options (Inn, Temple, Crypt, Tower, Treasury, Brewery, Library, Laboratory), and you can add upgrades such as a Kennel, Giant Cauldron, or Scriptorium.

A History view lists the games this warband has played.

Equipment update:

The roster now handles equipment in full.

Weapon and armour stats on every card. Each member card shows a Weapons & Armour table with the damage modifier, range, and rule note for every weapon and piece of armour. Values are from Frostgrave Second Edition, and include supplement weapons such as Javelins and the Bladed Staff.

Items are a list. Equipment is a vertical list, one item per line, with its rule text next to the name.

Item slot tracking. Each card shows the slots used against the figure's limit: 5 for a wizard, 4 for an apprentice, 1 for a soldier, 0 for animals. The first dagger is free, a two-handed weapon uses 2 slots, and the counter turns red if you go over.

Starting weapon choice. The wizard and apprentice choose Staff or Hand Weapon from a selector on their card. The choice is saved with the warband.

Add-item dropdown. Adding equipment uses one dropdown grouped into Weapons, Armour, and Items, plus a Grimoire option that lets you choose which spell it contains, and a custom entry for anything else.

Clearer recruit buttons. Soldier recruit buttons show name and cost as separate parts, mark the source book for supplement soldiers, and explain why a button is disabled when it is.
