Start Sinks Beckett

Oct 02, 2026

Not my thoughts necessarily but several people commented post match it was the opening ten minutes that led to Beckett’s defeat in their second BUCS fixture of the season. Playing against a strong Exeter side, they were 14-0 in arrears before mounting any significant attacks of their own.imageHowever, similar to last week against Durham, they gradually grew into the game and were once again transformed in the second half. Exeter’s significant half time lead was cut back and Beckett even had a slim lead for a short time. imageJust when all were thinking a spectacular recovery might be on the cards, Exeter snuffed out any such hopes, scoring a couple of tries to emerge with a convincing win: 36-50. A bonus losing point or two for Beckett and the knowledge that they’d participated in a hugely exciting game.

My chosen photos of the game were from this second half try from Diederick Verdaasdo. Thanks to my Canon SELPHY 1200 portable printer I was able to present him post match with a couple of prints of his try. He seemed pleased despite the loss, as did front rower Charlie Keith, who I spoke to briefly. Unbelievably, this was his 50th appearance for Beckett. Well done him. Hope you enjoy the rest of the photos.
