Though Maliq Holden’s first try of a trio was scored within three minutes of kick off in Doncaster Knights’ home season opener against Richmond, this was by no means an easy win. Not only did the visitors catch up during the opening forty, they actually held a reasonably healthy lead at the break. Both Holden’s try, a second from George Roberts and a Sam Olver penalty seemed to have counted for nothing.
However, whatever coach Steve Boden said to his squad at half time, it certainly worked as the Knights were rejuvenated and rampant in the second forty, scoring no fewer than four tries without reply. By the time Richmond did cross the line again in the last play of the game, their cause was lost, the final score being 48-24.
As the headline indicates, two of those tries came from Maliq Holden, the third being very similar to one he scored against Richmond in the corresponding fixture last season. It was an exhilarating second half - lots to see and much to photograph. Well done to both sides for providing such great entertainment.
