Wednesday afternoon and another trip to Headingley to see Leeds Beckett, this time taking on top of the table Durham. The weather was dull, damp, wet and the going was … soft.
If the conditions were sticky and muddy, Durham’s brand of rugby certainly wasn’t, and the hosts’ defence had been broken several times before half time, giving the visitors a healthy lead. While Beckett fared better in the second forty, scoring a try late on and keeping the Durham attack in check a bit more effectively, the away victory was never really in doubt.
ickledot broke with his regular habit of switching ends at half time and gave each side a half attacking his end. A lifetime ago he had been a Durham student, only for a year, but old loyalties remain. He was therefore able to capture their first half tries close up. You can see more pictures here.
