Hi, I'm Will.

I'm based in Lancashire. I learned my trade with a torch in my hand — now I'm a TWI instructor and examiner, an Independent End-Point Assessor, and a trained mental health first aider. In between, I retrained as a teacher and spent five years in the classroom.

Two things become obvious once you've sat on the assessing side. The first is that theory is where people quietly come unstuck — not the practical. Someone can lay a beautiful bead and still be terrified of the calculations, the codes, the why behind it. The second is that nobody talks about what that fear costs them.

This is an industry that praises hands and ignores heads. It shows in the retention figures, and it shows in worse numbers than that.

So I started Honos Engineering. Tools and courses that make the theory make sense, and a community where the people teaching it can admit when they're struggling.

The newest of those tools is Can You Just…? The Fabrication Business Game, free to play and in beta testing now at canyoujust.netlify.app. It's for the people whose education ends at their competency test, and for everyone who's only ever been shown their part of the job. You run your own fab shop: price the work, pick the right steel, run your crew and answer the client when they ask "can you just…?". Real specs, real regs, real headaches, built by the trade for the trade.
