Building Tools as a Non-CS Creator

Building Tools as a Non-CS Creator

I don’t have a computer science degree. My background is in the online education industry, mainly working on user operations.

A few years ago I started learning Python through online bootcamps and slowly built internal tools for my work — scripts for referral tracking, reporting, and automation. With the help of AI coding tools, I realised I could go beyond internal scripts and ship small products on the open web.

That’s how projects like SafetyPDF and the Issyk-Kul Institute for Applied Complexity appeared:

  • I take something I’m curious about (privacy-friendly tools, complexity science, world-building)

  • I use AI-assisted coding plus lots of trial-and-error

  • I polish it enough that other people can use or explore it

This page is where I share those experiments. I’m still learning in public, and I’m okay with things being a bit rough around the edges. If any of this resonates with you — especially if you’re also “not from CS” but curious about building things — I hope my work gives you a little encouragement.

If you’d like to support my learning journey, you can buy me a coffee as a way to say “keep going”. It really means a lot. ☕
