It all started with a text from my sister-in-law asking for help with my niece. I let her know that we would have to pass because our day was full.
Then, she responded asking if they could join our plans.
This is when I noticed my mind become defensive. Didn’t I already say no? I mean I stood up for myself rather than falling into old people pleasing tendencies. Right?!
Noticing my defensive thoughts, I became curious. Why was I so defensive?
Defensive tends to mean protecting something and I realized I was protecting myself.
My nervous system didn’t feel safe standing up for myself.
How beautiful to recognize and discover this! Now I know how to move forward, and choose what’s best for me.
Where do you have challenges saying no? I’m curious, why does it feel so challenging?
With love,
Amanda
